1. What Synaply is, and what this alpha is

Synaply is a language-learning service: you build a vocabulary, review it on a spaced repetition schedule, and practise translating sentences with feedback from a language model. Teachers can hand out word lists and lessons to their classes.

Synaply is currently a closed alpha: an early test version, open by invitation only. Its purpose is to try the product out and find what is broken — not to be a finished, reliable service. These terms describe that reality.

This agreement is between you and Stanislav Tolmachov, a private individual based in Norway who operates Synaply personally ("we", "us"). There is no company behind the alpha yet; if one is registered later, an updated edition of these terms will say so. By creating an account you accept this agreement.

2. Who can use Synaply

The alpha is for adults only. By creating an account you confirm that you are at least 18 years old. Synaply is not offered to minors during the alpha, and we close any account that turns out to belong to a person under 18 and delete its data.

Access is by invitation. You may register only if you received an invitation from us or from someone we authorised to invite you, and you may not pass your invitation to anyone else — in particular not to anyone under 18.

You take part personally, as yourself. Your school or employer is not a party to this agreement: even if a teacher told you about Synaply or sent you the invitation, the agreement is between you and us, and using Synaply is voluntary.

3. Alpha data can be deleted

This is the most important section. The alpha runs on a test database whose structure changes as the product develops. We may delete, reset or irrecoverably lose any and all data in the alpha — accounts, vocabularies, progress, class materials — at any time, without notice and without compensation. That is not an accident we are excusing in advance; it is a property of what an alpha is, and it is part of what you are agreeing to test.

Do not keep anything in Synaply that you cannot afford to lose, and do not treat it as the only copy of your work. You can download your data at any time from your account settings; if your progress matters to you, export it regularly.

4. Your account

One account belongs to one person. Keep your password to yourself: anything done from your account is treated as done by you, and if you think someone else got in, change your password — that signs out every device — and write to support@tolmachov.dev.

If you join a class, your membership in it is managed by the teacher: they can add you, remove you and see your progress on what they assigned. Leaving the class does not delete your account, and what you learned stays with you.

5. What you may not do

• Use the service to break the law, or to harass, endanger or impersonate anyone.
• Try to reach data that is not yours, probe or interfere with the service's security.
• Automate access in a way that degrades the service for others, or work around usage limits.
• Resell the service, or use it to build a competing dataset by scraping the dictionary in bulk.
• Upload content you have no right to share, including someone else's copyrighted material.
• Give your invitation or your account to another person, including anyone under 18.

We may suspend an account that does these things. Where the breach is minor and fixable we will say what is wrong before doing anything drastic.

6. Your content and AI output

Your word lists, translations, notes and practice answers stay yours. You grant us only what running the service needs: storing that content, showing it back to you, sending the relevant part to our AI provider to generate explanations and feedback, and — if you are in a class — showing your assigned work to your teacher.

Text the model generates is provided as it is. It can be wrong about grammar, meaning or usage, and it is not language teaching by a qualified human, nor preparation for any official exam. Do not rely on it as your only source; check anything that matters.

If you publish a word list to the public catalogue, you allow other users to copy it into their own collections. You can unpublish it later; copies already made stay with the people who made them.

7. Feedback

Testing produces feedback — bug reports, complaints, ideas, suggestions. By sending it to us in any form you allow us to use it freely and indefinitely to build and improve Synaply, without payment, attribution or any obligation to implement it. This covers your observations about the product, never your learning content, which stays yours under section 6.

8. Teachers and classes

Teachers in the alpha take part on the same personal terms as everyone else. A teacher who creates a class and invites students gets to see those students' progress on the work the teacher assigned — and only on that; personal vocabularies and self-directed study stay private.

A student joins a class only by accepting an invitation, and can leave it at any time. No school, municipality or employer acquires rights or obligations under this agreement by the fact that its staff or students test Synaply.

9. Access and payment

The alpha is free of charge, and nothing can be bought: no payment provider is connected to the service at all. Access is granted by us — by invitation and for the period of testing — and we may limit, suspend or revoke it at our discretion, because managing a small test group is what an alpha requires. Any trial counters you may see in the interface are test mechanics, not offers to buy anything.

If paid plans ever open, prices and billing terms will be published before they apply, and nothing will be charged without your explicit agreement.

10. Availability, changes and the end of the alpha

We do not promise that the alpha will be available, uninterrupted or free of defects — finding the defects is the point. Features may appear, change or disappear without notice, and the alpha itself may be paused or ended at any time, with the data handled as section 3 describes.

We may update these terms. A new edition gets a new effective date, and you will be asked to read and accept it the next time you sign in. If you do not accept it, you can stop using the service and delete your account.

11. Ending the agreement

You can stop at any time by deleting your account in settings. Deletion takes effect after 30 days and can be cancelled within that window; what happens to your data is described in the Privacy Policy.

We may close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, that belongs to a person under 18, or where we are required to. Except where the breach makes it impossible, we will tell you first and give you a chance to export your data.

12. Liability and governing law

The alpha is provided as it is, free of charge, for testing. To the extent Norwegian law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for the loss of data that section 3 warned you about and that you could have exported, or for decisions you make based on AI-generated explanations.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under Norwegian law — including liability for intent or gross negligence — and nothing takes away rights that mandatory law gives you as a consumer.

Norwegian law applies. Disputes we cannot resolve between us go to the Norwegian courts, without limiting any mandatory right you have as a consumer to sue or be sued where you live. Questions about these terms: support@tolmachov.dev.
